Dr. Lydia Bremer-McCollum will be offering a public and affordable ($200) Coptic course beginning Oct. 27th: “Learning Coptic through the Gospel of Thomas.” The course is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in ancient languages, Egyptian linguistics, sayings of Jesus, Nag Hammadi literature, Manichaean literature, or Egyptian monastic sources! Lydia developed the course in partnership with The Religion Department (Andrew Mark Henry of Religion for Breakfast’s new venture) based on her ten-year experience leading Coptic language courses at Harvard, Princeton, and Notre Dame. The course offers an 8-week primer on Coptic grammar (with level 2 offered in January 2026). Through live or recorded lectures, grammar and review materials, and weekly challenges students move from alphabet to reading Gospel of Thomas. All course materials are authored by Dr. Bremer-McCollum and based upon her twelve years+ of experience reading and studying Coptic grammar and primary sources. She piloted the course earlier this summer and received stellar reviews from learners. More information and sign-up available here.
