NAPS/ASCH Joint Call for Papers, Seattle, Jan 7-10, 2021

NORTH AMERICAN PATRISTICS SOCIETY AND THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF CHURCH HISTORY
JOINT CALL FOR PAPERS FOR THE ASCH WINTER MEETING
JANUARY 7-10, 2021

The American Society of Church History invites members of the North American Patristics Society to submit proposals for two jointly-sponsored panels on topics in the early Christian/late ancient and medieval sections of its program. Recently approved by the Board of NAPS, this cooperative annual venture intends to encourage, in particular, three-member panel submissions thematically organized. ASCH is also happy to receive individual paper proposals, not attached to panels.

The theme of the 2021 ASCH Annual Meeting is “Crossings,” and it asks participants to consider the numerous “crossing” points in the history of Christianity: geography, race, gender, theology, belief, culture, iconography, borders. NAPS members might consider organizing panels around the themes of missions/pilgrimage/translation/inter-religious encounter. Another suggestion could be to consider a theme such as “Crossing the Mediterranean in Late Antiquity,” for example, to examine the ways in which theological controversies were stimulated or exacerbated by individuals crossing the Mediterranean.

The call for papers is available here: https://churchhistory.org/annualmeeting/call-for-papers/ with a deadline of March 15.
